Gaithersburg, MD – Today, the Montgomery County Green Democrats endorsed Maryland Senator Roger Manno in the contested campaign for the 6th Congressional District. Formed in 1990, the Montgomery County Green Democrats are a volunteer environmental activist group withing the Montgomery County Democratic Party, committed to strong and unwavering environmental policies and progress.
Manno was also recently endorsed by Food and Water Action Fund.
In this year’s endorsement process, the group considered more than 175 federal, state and local candidates.
In their announcement of Manno, the Board stated “Winning this endorsement is particularly impressive because there were many fine candidates and in each race the winner or winners had to clear a very high threshold,” and “The Committee is also urging all Green Democrats to support your campaign.”
In considering Manno’s credentials, the group’s weighed Manno’s 100% lifetime League of Conservation Voters rating, and his specific leadership, as Senate Chair of the AELR regulatory committee, in stopping Governor Hogan’s fracking regulations that would have allowed fracking to begin on October 1, 2017. Notably, the group has endorsed Manno in his 2006 State Delegate race, in which Manno finished 1st out of 8 primary opponents, his 2010 State Senate race, in which Manno defeated an incumbent State Senator by 54-46%, and his current contested primary race for the United States Congress.
“I love the Green Dems,” stated Manno. “I have always valued and admired their strong, principled advocacy for environmental progress. I’m honored that they continue to stand with me, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to partner with them for more sustainable environmental policies.”
