Montgomery County, MD – Today, the national progressive advocacy group Justice Democrats announced their endorsement of State Senator Roger Manno for Congress in Maryland’s 6th Congressional District.
Justice Democrats is a grassroots, small-dollar funded independent political organization founded by former staff of the Bernie Sanders 2016 presidential campaign. Justice Democrats have endorsed over 70 candidates running for federal and statewide office in 2018 who have all rejected donations from large corporations in order to fight on behalf of their voters, not big money donors. All of the Justice Democrats candidates are united around a shared platform consisting of Medicare For All, free college, $15/hour living wage, criminal justice reform and ending mass incarceration.
Discussing their endorsement, Alexandra Rojas, Co-Director of Justice Democrats, said, “These are difficult times for working people. In Maryland, Senator Roger Manno has been leading the fight for 12 years for a level playing field. On issues of economic and social justice, Roger has demonstrated the political courage that we look for in a Justice Democrats candidate. From fighting for good jobs with benefits to ending the cradle to prison pipeline, Roger has always stood for policies that benefit all Americans, not just the powerful elite.”
From picket lines to the floor of the State Senate, Roger Manno has dedicated his career to fighting for working people. He has successfully taken on insurance companies who denied care, big polluters, and union-busting bosses. He stood up against outrageous tolls, stopped cuts to senior’s programs, women’s health, and workforce training. He fought to make our tax code fairer for hard-working families, seniors, and first responders. And when other Democrats turned their back on working families by advancing a $1.1 billion tax cut for the richest 0.2%, Roger Manno was the only candidate in the race for CD-06 who took a stand for working people.
Speaking on his endorsement, Manno stated, “I am honored to receive the endorsement of Justice Democrats, and excited about the work ahead. The fight for equality of opportunity is among America’s greatest challenges. It begins with a good job, benefits, and a level playing field. And if you get sick, lose your job, or just need some help along the way, you deserve a system that’s fair and build for everyone. I’ve dedicated my life to that work – to leveling the playing field for families just trying to make it – and I couldn’t be more optimistic about the work that Justice Democrats and real progressives are doing to take our country back.”
