32BJ SEIU and Local 500 SEIU Endorse Roger Manno for Congress
Montgomery, Co. MD – Members of 32BJ SEIU and Local 500 SEIU today announced their endorsement of Roger Manno for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District.
“Roger Manno has been a consistent champion for working people in Maryland as both a Senator and Delegate,” said Jaime Contreras, 32BJ SEIU Vice President. “He has been an outspoken supporter raising the minimum wage and paid sick leave. He has also walked picket lines side by side with union members fighting to improve their working conditions. With Governor Hogan blocking progress for working families, more than ever, Maryland needs champions in Washington who will fight for them.”
“SEIU Local 500’s decision to support Roger Manno was not based on promises he made, but on actions he has already taken on behalf of Maryland families. As a state senator he was a tireless advocate for public education, for health care and for good paying jobs. His record in Annapolis is the record of a champion for working people. Local 500 members have known Senator Manno for a long time – and we know that he will never stop working for Marylanders when he is elected to Congress,” said Merle Cuttitta, President, SEIU Local 500.
Thousands of members of 32BJ work and reside in Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, including office cleaners who maintain commercial buildings and government agencies throughout Montgomery County. SEIU Local 500 represents over 20,000 workers across Maryland and the District of Columbia. Its members are educators, caregivers and advocates. Local 500 members work in Montgomery County Public Schools, teach at Montgomery College, provide child care to families across the state and care for some of Maryland’s most vulnerable residents.
With more than 163,000 members in 11 states, including 18,000 in MD and the D.C. Metropolitan Area, 32BJ SEIU is the largest property service workers union in the country.
