Redistricting: AG Opinion on Constitutionality of SB1

Annapolis, MD - Today Attorney General Douglas Gansler issued an Opinion on the constitutionality and legal sufficiency of Senate Bill 1, the Governor's congressional redistricting map of the Special Session of 2011. The 4-page Opinion examines the tests and caselaw that determine constitutionality and legal sufficiency, and concludes "It is our view that nothing in Senate Bill 1 can be deemed an unconstitutional racial gerrymander."
