Annapolis, MD - Today Senator Roger Manno attended a briefing as a member of the Joint Committee on Health Care Delivery and Financing. Of interest was an overview of Vermont's recent legislation to establish a state-run "single-payer" (universal health care) system. Roger's comments and questions focused largely on higher reimbursement rates for providers under such a system, guaranteed access to care, and overall savings to states in establishing unified state-run health plans.
Universal health care has been Roger's highest priority since taking office in 2006. In 2009 and 2010 Roger served on a White House working group that helped the White House establish the landmark Affordable Care Act (ACA), which will cover an additional 31 million Americans, and is the largest health care expansion in America since Medicare.
