Manno Speaks at AFL-CIO Building Trades Conference

Ocean City, MD -- this morning Senator Roger Manno gave remarks at the Maryland Building and Construction Trades Council (AFL-CIO) conference. Roger's remarks, which lasted some 45 minutes,  focused on rebuilding Maryland's infrastructure and creating new jobs in the construction industry.

Other speakers today included Ron DeJulius, Maryland's Commissioner of Labor and Industry. Both Roger and Commissioner DeJulius have worked closely together for many years on job creation, and in strong partnership with Governor Martin O'Malley.

Both Roger and DeJulius discussed contracting opportunities, Project Labor Agreements, regulatory inspections, the importance of the Governor's Offshore Wind Farm proposal, and the need to build a 600+ megawatt clean natural gas plant in Charles County, which would create hundreds of highly-skilled and high-paying jobs, and bring nearly $1 billion in investment to the state. Currently, Competative Power Ventures (CPV Maryland) of Silver Spring has a pending proposal to build the greatly-needed project.

Roger was elected to the State Senate in 2010 with the strong support of every AFL-CIO Building and Construction Trades local union in Maryland. He previously served 4 years in the Maryland House of Delegates, during which time he authored successful legislation to expand apprenticeship training opportunities in Maryland, and was honored by the MD and DC Building and Construction Trades Council as "Legislator of the Year." Roger currently serves on the Senate's Budget and Taxation Committee.
