Mike Hersh, PDA Communications Director, said, “Progressive Democrats of America was founded on specific progressive principles Our endorsement standards are exacting. With many strong candidates for Congress in the 6th district, one stands out in terms of experience in Annapolis and on Capitol Hill: Senator Roger Manno.”
Hersh added, “Sen. Manno is also unmatched in commitment to progressive policies. He took the lead on issues including environment, healthcare, education, labor, education, immigration, voting rights, budget, services, jobs, and more. In a crowded and talented field, one candidate deserves our endorsement. That candidate is Roger Manno.”
Roger Manno said, “I’m honored to have the support of Progressive Democrats in my race for the 6th Congressional District. I’ve worked alongside PDA for Healthcare as a Human Right, for the Equal Rights Amendment, to stop Global Warming, to ban Fracking, as well as for economic and social justice.”
Hersh listed some highlights of Sen. Manno’s public service, “Roger Manno is a true progressive. As a staffer in Congress, he worked for Medicare For All / HR 676 from day 1 in 2002-2003. As a Maryland legislator, he voted against the $11.4M estate tax giveaway for the top .2%, against allowing garbage burning as ‘clean energy’ tax credits, and against huge giveaways to corporations. He led the struggle to ban fracking, help patients gain healthcare and afford medications, help people register to vote, to lift the arbitrary deadline from the Equal Right Amendment, and much more. No other candidate in this primary contest can match this record. That’s why PDA gives Roger Manno our highest endorsement.”
PDA is a grassroots political action committee, founded in 2004 to transform the Democratic Party and U.S. politics by electing progressives to federal office. PDA will raise money for the Manno campaign, operate volunteer phone banks, organize house parties, do visibility actions, and otherwise support Sen. Manno’s candidacy.
PDA’s Healthcare Not Warfare campaign brings together the need for a comprehensive universal healthcare system with our advocacy for scaled-down military spending and reliance on diplomatic foreign policy, rather than regime change and military action.
The PDA National Advisory Board includes: Representatives Barbara Lee, Keith Ellison, Raul Grijalva, and James McGovern; as well as progressive leaders including Academy Award winning documentarian Michael Moore, Actress / Activist Mimi Kennedy, Rev. Dr. Rodney Sadler, Author Jim Hightower, and Radio Hosts / Authors Lila Garrett and Thom Hartmann. Esteemed activists Michael Lighty, Medea Benjamin, Steve Cobble, Kristin Cabral, Dr. Paul Song, M.D., and Professor Marjorie Cohn also serve on the PDA Advisory Board.
